How Coronavirus has affected gaming

The Coronavirus (COVID-19) has created a sticky situation across the globe. The majority of people spend their time working a job or seeking entertainment from things such as TV, sports, movies, etc. COVID-19 has made it difficult if not impossible for people to participate in their normal activities. It has caused many people to lose their job and live off of money provided by the government. All these things create a situation where millions of people are stuck inside of their homes with nothing to do. This has created a major increase in people’s interest in gaming that may not have been there before so that they can cure their boredom. This has created an extreme and in some cases almost record-breaking increase in the number of players around the world in the gaming industry.

These major increases in numbers have severely increased the revenue of many gaming companies and game developers. It has also provided loads of opportunities for businesses to learn more about the gaming industry and use it to their advantage. It has also opened up opportunities for individuals to possibly earn themselves a sustainable living from gaming through different methods such as different live streaming services like Twitch, Youtube, Mixer, Facebook Live, and more. Gamers also have increased opportunities for getting into Esports and competing in major tournaments across the globe due to the vast amount of free time available that they could use to practice.

Although there are many benefits in the increases in interest in the gaming industry there are also some downfalls. While the players may be enjoying the games that are available to them, developers are the ones providing them with new content and fixes to previous games. COVID-19 has made it difficult for the developers to provide these things to the community. Social distancing has made it so developers have a lack of communication while working remotely from home. This made it so developers were no longer to work out an issue in person. This is a major adjustment to make, especially when nobody was expecting it. This could cause delays for game releases that have been set for a long time.

COVID-19 may also cause delays or problems for major companies that are providing the hardware for people to play the games. Also, for the developers to work on due to problems with manufacturing, caused by the virus.
